
Biography:
Michael Kennedy is a Board-Certified Civil Trial Lawyer in Wicker Smith’s Miami office, with 39 years of litigation and trial experience. His primary practice areas are professional liability, business and commercial law, entertainment law, and related litigation and trials in State and Federal Court and alternate dispute resolution forums.
In 1980, Mr. Kennedy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from the University of New Hampshire with a major in political science and a minor in creative writing. He then continued his education at the University of Miami School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor degree in 1984. He also attended and graduated from the highly selective and prestigious Trial Lawyers College.
Prior to joining Wicker Smith, Mr. Kennedy had his own law firm in Texas, where his primary practice areas were business law, entertainment and music law, intellectual property law, and all forms of related dispute resolution including litigation, trials and arbitration. Prior to that, he was a trial lawyer at two different firms that specialized in medical malpractice. Mr. Kennedy has appeared as lead counsel, trial counsel, and co-counsel in hundreds of courtroom and arbitration proceedings throughout the United States and has tried many cases to verdict.
Mr. Kennedy is admitted to practice in Florida, Colorado, and Texas. He is an active member of The Florida Bar, The Colorado Bar, and The Texas Bar. He is a former professional musician and former professional skydiver. He holds a 3rd-degree black belt from the American Taekwondo Association (ATA), and is a 4th-degree black belt candidate in Shimsan Taekwondo from the National Martial Arts Alliance. In 2012, he competed at the ATA World Traditional Taekwondo Union and Songahm Taekwondo Federation World Championships, where he earned the title of World Champion in both Forms and Traditional Weapons in the Men’s 50-59 1st-degree black belt division. In his spare time, Mr. Kennedy enjoys playing guitar, listening to live music, hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, cycling, working out, martial arts, taking road trips, and cooking.
